22. ZTPF Liestal 2012
The weekend from the 29th of June till 1st of July was all about drumming for me. The all four year taking place central drum and pipe festival took place, this year in Liestal.
Already on Friday I had my first duty at the festival where I started in the single competition. There I had to drum two compositions, each to a jury of two people. Of course that’s not always so easy to do and I really was nervous at the first jury. But I gathered myself for the second one and could show them what I trained for the last months. The results would be announced on Saturday evening so I had no clue how good or bad I was at that point.
On Saturday then we had our group-competition. Also here we trained for it for months already. Hours of hours of training would finally end now in a hopefully good performance. Overall we showed a nice one but it could have been better. Our team play was not the best and a few times it didn’t sound like one group but seven single drummers trying to play the same thing. The results for that competition would be announced on Sunday.
In the late afternoon we could celebrate our group leader because he got appointed as veteran. Means he spent already over twenty years for the drumming (in his case actually already over 28 years if I’m correct informed), and is older than 42 years (which was now the case). Congratulations again Bruno!
Finally in the evening they announced the ranking of the solo-competitions. And cou know what? In Interlaken two years ago I was fourth. Back then I just wanted to see where I stand. I didn’t know how good or bad I was and simply took part. Now I really trained hard for it and in the end could step on the 1. place on the podium! Finally it was enough that I could win the competition!
However to normalize this a little: I started in the lowest difficulty level. So there is still a looooot of space left till the top. But that I could already do that shows me that lots of training and hard work will pay well. Also I now have my very own drum which is just awesome! I love it ^^
Sunday was a not such a nice day if we look at the weather. Friday and Saturday we had temperatures around 32°C and sun without a single cloud but Sunday it was raining over and over again. So they had to cancel the official group drumming and the parade. But the mood was not all bad. Also we were pretty happy when we heard the 5th rank for our group. It’s not too awesome but what we expected.
In the end now I would like to thank everyone who had to do without me in the last weeks and months. I did put a lot of time into the drumming and took it from other things and people. I am really happy that I could get that time and hope I can show you all once that it was worth it to give it to me. Also a really big thank you to our Junior-band which made such a nice poster and welcome when I came back home. I was overwhelmed!
In two years will be the swiss drumming championships again. I could go again in the same category and difficulty level and prove that I am really the best in Switzerland in that grade. But I want to go further and will go into the higher category. So I now have two years time for three new compositions to learn, should be enough time XD
See you there in Frauenfeld!
